Redefining What it Means to be Successful
By Pam Nochlin
Barbara Walters interviewed Arianna Huffington, of the Huffington Post, about many things including; redefining what it means to be successful, the value of sleep and her new book, (appropriately named!), Thrive: The Third Metric To Redefining Success and Creating A Life Of Well-Being, Wisdom and Wonder.
Some take aways:
• There is a stress epidemic and burnout is a chronic issue
• We’ve become too tired to enjoy the good moments
• We need time to reflect, to sleep without disruption and to unplug
• You’re missing out if you think life if only about money and power
• Having success doesn’t mean your successful
• Life is shaped from the inside out
• We spend too much time polishing our resume
• We need to change corporate language and stop praising people who work 24/7
• We don’t pay people for stamina we pay them for their judgment and creativity
• Don’t follow anyone else’s path unless you're in the forest and you're lost
• Happiness is a skill you can learn through compassion and giving
• What Arianna knows for sure: who you are on the inside, is much greater than who you present to the world
